We are very happy to announce that the students from Forms 1 and 2 have got new classmates: two fascinating Mexican axolotls. They are going to stay with us during the school year since we believe that observing and caring for an animal help children develop a sense of responsibility and respect for life. In this way, students are encouraged to be aware of the needs of others –both animals and humans- by, for example, feeding the fish and cleaning the tank themselves. Besides, this gives us the opportunity to teach new vocabulary in a significant way as the children can make real-world connections and apply what they have learned in other subjects, such as science.

Nos complace anunciar que los alumnos de primero y segundo grado tienen nuevos compañeros: dos sorprendentes ajolotes mejicanos que nos van a acompañar durante todo el año.

Creemos que observar y cuidar a un animal ayuda a los niños a desarrollar valores como responsabilidad y respeto por la vida. En este sentido, apuntamos a que estén atentos a las necesidades de los demás, tanto seres humanos como animales.

Así, ellos mismos son los encargados de alimentar al pez y de limpiar la pecera. Por otra parte, nos permite enseñar vocabulario nuevo de una manera significativa, ya que pueden realizar conexiones con situaciones reales y aplicar lo aprendido en otras materias, como ciencias naturales.
